aus dem Newsletter der GKJTU, der Pertnerkirche der Neukirchener Mission. Hier hat Jochen eine Zusammenfassung seines Einsatzes gegeben:

“After approximately one year in Salatiga as a volunteer in social missionary matters, now my time is over and I’m back in Germany successfully. Thus I’m supposed to write a brief summary of my time and experiences there. When I arrived in Indonesia last year, I nearly was in a state of shock. The impression of the crowded, noisy and dirty capital Jakarta shaped my first observations of Indonesia. Actually I was in the mood of going straight home again. And despite of the warm welcome in Salatiga which was given by Mister Sugito and his family, the first days in Salatiga were not the easiest of my life. But I saw it through and after a couple of weeks I got closer to the people and my new surroundings. Then I started to enjoy the life and the community in Salatiga. Moreover I also got used to the challenges of teaching and consequently I was able to create and realize new ideas and lessons. So I could discover some new gifts of God which were useful for my students and the quality of my classes. The thing that impressed me most was the amazing and blessed community among the teachers and also among the parishioners. Especially the communicative teachers in Getasan were really kind to me and in fact they made it easier for me to gain ground in their school. But also the warm and pure hearts of the youth fellowship made me happy and they’ve become a role model for me. I guess I still can learn so much of their manner how to live your Christian faith. Last but not least I really have to say ‘Thank you so much!’ to my beloved host family Sarju. What I’ve learned during this year is that we – as humans – are not able to change the world in short time but the Lord Jesus can – and he loves to do it – change people’s mind and their environment in small but lasting steps. All in all I’d like to draw the conclusion that Yayasan Sion’s efforts to educate the children on the slope of Merbabu Mountain are very necessary and precious. I’m glad that I could take part in those efforts for one year and due to this became useful and helpful for them. Finally I have to admit that I’ve really fallen in love with the country and its people.”
